Chlamydia treatment

Azithromycin belongs to a group of antibiotics called macrolides. It is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent, useful against several different types of bacteria. It can be used in treating sinus infection, skin infection and several sexually transmitted infections (STIs). It is available as a Prescription only medicine (POM), and is usually taken only once a day. Azithromycin can be prescribed as a tablet, capsule or in a liquid formulation.

Doxycycline is a tetracycline antibiotic, it is used to treat a range of bacterial infections such as chest infections, skin infections and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). It is classed as a broad-spectrum antibiotic and is recommended by BASHH (British association for Sexual health and HIV) as the first line antibiotic for the treatment of Chlamydia. 

It works by significantly reducing the spread of the infection, allowing the body's defences to destroy the parasite before it takes hold. It is a highly effective antibiotic against chlamydia, over 95% of chlamydia infections can be treated with doxycycline.
